Large-format dual-sided bonded diamond stones for freehand sharpening knives of any steel.
Format
Phoenix Series stones are designed for freehand knife sharpening and offer excellent performance on any steel.
Construction
Each stone has two 1 mm-thick diamond-bearing layers on an aluminum plate with evenly distributed diamond grains.
Binder
Bonded diamonds are more complex to manufacture than coated diamonds and give the sharpening stone a much longer lifespan.
Combinations
Grit system
All Venev diamonds use FEPA-F grit classification. Phoenix Series is available in six grit combinations.
F80 to F240 utilize the legacy binder, while F400 to F2000 utilize the OCB binder.
CB 2000 is an experimental Venev product in all form factors. Additional lapping is strongly recommended to improve the sharpening result. For OCB 2000, use loose silicon carbide powder with the progression F120 → F400 → F2000.
OCB finish
OCB 1200 is an optimal finish stone for most users because it creates a beautiful mirror finish and a very good scratch pattern.
OCB 2000 creates a hair-whittling edge with good geometry and improves edge retention, but may leave parasite scratches caused by diamond agglomeration.
Finish with OCB 1200 if aesthetics are the priority. Finish with OCB 2000 if functionality is the priority.
Use
Venev Diamonds are recommended to be used with water as a lubricant for the best sharpening feedback. The diamond layer does not absorb water, so it is enough to splash water on the stone surface.
Dry use is acceptable, although it results in faster wearing and speeds up stone loading.
Phoenix Series Diamonds may have flatness tolerance up to 0.3 mm.
