Purpose
Thickness Compensator serves as a handy tool for maintaining your chosen sharpening angle when working with sharpening stones of varying thicknesses on Hapstone sharpeners. It is not advisable to rely solely on a collection of stones with a single thickness as a long-term solution. With a wide variety of excellent stones available in different thicknesses, there's no need to limit your options.
Why it matters
When switching between stones of different thickness, the angle of the horizontal shaft may change. The compensator acts as an anchor, ensuring consistent and accurate sharpening.
1. Position the compensator on the vertical shaft during assembly.
2. Insert the first stone and set the sharpening angle.
3. Place the compensator below the pivot and secure it with the thumb screw.
4. Match the distance to the stone thickness using the stone as a guide.
5. Keep the compensator fixed throughout the sharpening process.
