Dense French slate finishing stones for razors, knives, gouges, wood chisels, and other fine edge tools.
Natural slate
Green Shadow and Black Shadow hones are natural slate stones from private family land in France.
Finish range
Both stones are designed for finishing razors, knives, gouges, wood chisels, and other edge tools.
Progression
They work well as final finishers after a Coticule, 5–8K synthetic hone, or similar honing progression.
Green Shadow
Dense and hard stone with slightly softer feel than Black Shadow, offering more tactile feedback on steel while honing.
Black Shadow
Very dense and hard finishing stone that offers the ultimate finish while still retaining velvety feedback.
Directions for use
Both hones can be used with slurry produced by a piece of the same stone. The slurry works best with a small amount of water on the stone.
Too much water can make the stone slip and create a suction effect because of the hard surface.
A slurry-honed edge will have a hazy finish, while slurry gives faster and more powerful sharpening. A water-based finish gives a shinier polish, while glycerin or oil gives a more homogeneous finish.
