Natural Belgian slate stone with high garnet content for finish sharpening on Hapstone knife sharpeners.
Natural stone
Belgian Blue Whetstone is a natural slate stone mined in the Ardennes mountains in Belgium.
Abrasive action
During sharpening, garnet-rich slurry is released from the stone surface and becomes the active grinding compound.
Steel range
BBW stones are universal and can be used to sharpen knives of any steel.
How to use
Belgian Blue Whetstones should be used with water. Wet the surface before sharpening; there is no need to immerse the stone.
Try to keep the slurry on the stone surface, as the released garnets increase the abrasive action during sharpening.
Natural stone notes
• BBW stones always have a natural color pattern.
• The color pattern is not a defect.
• BBW stones are naturally lapped to extra-fine grit.
FAQ
Grit terminology is not directly applicable to natural sharpening stones. The behavior depends on density and lapping quality, but BBW is commonly estimated around #3000–#4000.
