Thick bonded aluminum oxide stone with excellent performance and low loading for sharpening knives on Hapstone sharpeners.
Series
AS-9 series stones are made of aluminum oxide and were originally intended for metal treatment after electric spark machining.
Performance
Due to their excellent performance and weak loading, AS-9 stones became popular for sharpening knives.
Format
This version has a 12 mm working surface for a longer service life and more abrasive material.
Boride stones
Boride sharpening stones are used for sharpening knives on Hapstone sharpeners and are available in series with different performance values and wear rates.
All Boride stones are mounted on high-quality aluminum blanks. Thicker stones offer a longer life cycle than standard 3 mm Edge Pro stones.
Lubricants
Boride stones can be used with water, soapy water, Boride Bori-Lube, or a water solution of dipropylene glycol.
WD-40, refined olive oil, and oleic acid are options for experienced users only.
Preparation
When using water, soak the stone for 1–2 minutes. When using oil, apply 1–2 drops to the surface and spread evenly.
If the stone absorbs the honing oil, use a larger amount of oil.
Maintenance
Boride stones may have saw strokes on the working surface, lacquer residues, or small chips at corners and edges no larger than 1 mm.
These minor marks are eliminated during stone preparation. Additional lapping can be performed with loose silicon carbide powder or a diamond lapping plate.
